Judy needed professional, compassionate treatment for an addiction to opiate medication. She had suffered a lower back injury in 1998 while working as a nurse’s aid. The doctor prescribed the opiate medication oxycontin to help her cope with unrelenting pain.

Over the years her tolerance to the pain medication grew as she went from taking 3 - 30 mg pills per day to 10 pills per day. She had to buy extra pills from her friends and family. She had reached a point of desperation and visited the emergency room because the pain had reached a breakthrough point and failed to provide the relief she needed.

The ER doctor at the Hospital explained to her that she was in withdrawal related to addiction to her pain medication.  The time had arrived to address not only the pain medication but also some other behavior health issues that involved long term prescription of Xanax, which she had been provided by her doctor for anxiety.

Judy found help and her hope for a better life restored as she began therapy at Lutheran Social Services Medication Assisted Drug Treatment program. She received professional, compassionate counseling and Suboxone treatment allowing her to experience a stable and secure recovery.

One of the barriers for Judy as it is with many who suffer from an addiction to pain medication is the cost of treatment.  The option of a sliding scale for payment made it possible for her to begin the road to recovery and a whole new life.
