LSS Volunteers Recognized at Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon

“Thank you” was the order of the day on May 8th as volunteers gathered at Wildwood’s Ward Pavilion. Several staff present personally thanked volunteers for their participation in LSS of NW Ohio ministries this past year. The group of 80 enjoyed conversation and an excellent salad buffet prepared by Chef Marcel of the Toledo Zoo.

Following lunch was a slide presentation by Toledo MetroParks naturalist Linda Munger, titled “The Healing Power of Nature.” Ms. Munger’s slides showed many of the various butterflies of the area in their colorful stages of development.

Supporting the butterfly theme, rich green clothes and vases with forsythia branches and butterflies decorated the tables. Recognized for their supportive roles were volunteers in board and advisory positions, receptionists, pantry, Market Basket, Volunteer Guardianship and those helping with clerical duties including mailings.

Rev. BullEmcee Pastor Steve Bull of St. Paul’s Toledo, Court House Square, held high the value of helping others as our Christian calling. Nancy Yunker, Pres/CEO and Pastor Chuck Campbell, Church of the Master and Board Chair, pointed out that in 2007 LSS benefitted from 10,603 volunteers hours valued at $192,020.

Ruth Moeller, Coordinator of Volunteers presented Marv Mullholand as 2007 Volunteer of the Year, highlighting the many ways he has served the Fremont community for several years and specifically LSS these last 11 years. Rev. Dr. Mark Hill closed with a benediction thanking God for our Mission and for the dedicated persons strengthening our services.

Many thanks to the Volunteer Recognition Event Task Force consisting of Nancy Atkins, Sally Goetz, Nancy Rieck, and Betty Lock with the support from the LSS staff.

Among those in attendance were several former Volunteers of the Year, board and advisory members, Messenger mailers, Bowling Green receptionists, Market Basket and pantry volunteers.
